Energy Club Weekly Digest: Main Events and Activities (February 3-7)

Training and Professional Development

During the week, Energy Club actively conducted training events to improve the skills of energy industry professionals and community representatives.

On February 4, a week of two lectures began as part of the “EnergoStart: Learning for the Future” training program, module 2 “Integration of Energy Systems and Current Trends.” International expert of SIGRE-Ukraine Serhii Kucher opened the topics “Operation and Integration of Energy Systems” (lesson 7) and “Flexible Bridge to the Future: Natural Gas” (lesson 8). The lectures were devoted to the issues of integration of various energy networks and the role of natural gas in energy supply.

On February 5 and 7, Energy Club Vice President Valerii Bezus and Deputy Director of the Ligret Group of Companies Volodymyr Gromko conducted the first two classes of the course “Distributed Generation: A Step Towards Ukraine’s Energy Independence”. On February 5, Valerii Bezus at session 1 spoke about the importance of distributed generation for Ukraine, and on February 7, Volodymyr Gromko at session 2 reviewed the types of distributed generation and prospects for the development of renewable energy. The course is aimed at representatives of territorial communities and aims to provide knowledge for the implementation of distributed generation projects.

On February 6, practical classes were held within the framework of the “EnergoStart” program. Serhii Kucher conducted a session on “Planning and Integration of Renewable Energy Sources into the Energy System Using Natural Gas and Storage Technologies” (session 9), and Valerii Bezus focused on “Innovations in Energy and Energy Efficiency” (session 10).

Discussion platform “Energy Freedom”

On February 4, an online discussion “Information security in the energy sector: challenges and solutions” was held in the Energy Freedom format. Experts, representatives of the authorities and energy companies discussed current issues of information security in the energy sector under martial law, the risks of disinformation and ways to counter information threats. The moderator was Andriy Kulykov, and among the speakers were MPs Oleksii Kucherenko and Serhii Nagornyak, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yurii Boyko, Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Energy Assembly Ivan Plachkov, Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine of various years Serhii Yermilov, as well as Energy Club vice-presidents Maksym Nemchynov, Valerii Bezus and Ivan Grygoruk.

Blogs of the week

This week, two analytical articles from Energy Club experts were published in the “Blogs” section:

  • “The completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP will strengthen the energy system and allow for the compensation of the capacity deficit” – Energy Club Vice President Ivan Grygoruk examined the importance of completing the Khmelnytskyi NPP for Ukraine’s energy security and its economic recovery.
  • “Why Nord Stream 2 is not suitable for transporting hydrogen” – Energy Club Vice President Maksym Bielawsky debunked the myth about the possibility of repurposing the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline for hydrogen transportation, citing 5 technical reasons for the impossibility of implementing such a project.
