About the Company
PJSC Zaporizhtransformator (ZTR) (Ukrainian: PJSC “Zaporizhtransformator”) is an enterprise of the electrical industry of Ukraine, one of the largest manufacturers of transformer equipment. It produces power oil transformers, electric reactors and controlled shunt reactors. Located in Zaporizhia. According to 2012 estimates, it was among the ten largest global manufacturers of transformer equipment and occupied 4% of the global market for these products. Since 2001, it was part of the financial and industrial group “Energy Standard” of K. Grigorishin, in 2022 it was nationalized for the period of martial law.
History
The construction of the Zaporizhzhya Transformer Plant was started in 1947 with the purpose of manufacturing transformer equipment and high-voltage apparatus for the restoration and development of the USSR electric power industry in the post-war period. In 1949, the first transformer with a capacity of 1000 kVA for a voltage class of 10 kV was manufactured and tested. In 1961, the plant began producing high-speed switching equipment for the first time in the USSR. In 1966, the world’s first 750 kV autotransformer (with a capacity of 417 MVA) was manufactured. In 1971, the plant became the head enterprise of the Zaporizhzhya Transformer Production Association, created on the basis of a number of local electrical engineering enterprises.
The production association was the main manufacturer of general-purpose AC power transformers of various capacities in the USSR.
The plant manufactured transformers for a large number of energy and industrial enterprises, including: Kuibyshev Hydroelectric Power Station, Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station, Boguchanskaya Hydroelectric Power Station, Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station, Leningrad Nuclear Power Station (Russia), Aswan Hydroelectric Complex (Egypt), Slavyanskaya and Uglegorsk State District Power Stations, South-Ukrainian, Khmelnitsky, Zaporizhzhya and Chernobyl Nuclear Power Stations (Ukraine). Since 1990, the plant has been producing electric (shunt) reactors, and since 1996 — controlled shunt reactors — FACTS equipment for controlled compensation of reactive power and stabilization of voltage levels in high-voltage networks.
In 1994, as a result of privatization, the enterprise was transformed into the joint-stock company “Zaporozhtransformator”. In 2001, the enterprise became part of the financial and industrial group “Energy Standard”. On November 5, 2022, by decision of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, chaired by the President of Ukraine, the enterprise was nationalized for the period of martial law, and the shares of the enterprise became state property.
