The market for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Ukraine is undergoing a stage of rapid scaling. However, simply purchasing a battery is not enough to achieve true energy independence for a business. Volodymyr Dokhlenko, Secure Power and Service Sales Director, Schneider Electric, spoke in detail about the company’s strategic approach to implementing such projects during an Energy Club expert session.
According to the expert, the Ukrainian market has its own specifics, which differ significantly from European or American experiences.
“Unfortunately, in our case, it was the war that spurred a massive interest in these solutions. In Ukraine, the primary motivator is the energy independence of enterprises. Meanwhile, abroad, such systems are implemented mainly to reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable development,” noted Volodymyr Dokhlenko.
The expert emphasized that the company moves away from formal equipment sales. Instead, businesses are offered comprehensive development based on the intelligent Microgrid system.
“When customers come to us, they often only ask about the capacity or the chemistry of the battery. But let’s be honest: a battery by itself does not solve the global task of an enterprise, except perhaps for price arbitrage. Therefore, our principle is different. We develop a local power distribution system that combines generation, solar plants, diesel units, and stored energy into a single, managed mechanism,” the expert explained.
This approach ensures that the investor receives not just a set of expensive equipment, but a functional system that automatically balances resources, switches between power modes, and delivers real savings. Furthermore, Schneider Electric provides full local service support, which is a critical factor for Ukrainian industrial enterprises.
