On March 15, 2024, within the framework of the forum “Save and Accumulate”, Valeriy Bezus, Vice President of Energy Club, Advisor to the Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure, spoke.
He emphasized the extreme importance of developing energy storage systems at all levels of the energy system to ensure sustainable and reliable development of the national energy sector. He noted that public data on the Report on the Assessment of the Adequacy of Generating Capacities of NPC “Ukrenergo” indicates the need for 800 MW of total installed capacity of UZE for the sustainable functioning of the energy system of Ukraine.
Valeriy Bezus also emphasized the wide range of possibilities for using energy storage and accumulation systems, in addition to meeting the needs of the unified energy system. He emphasized their role in ensuring energy sustainability at the lower levels and the compliance of their application practice with the principle paradigm of the three “Ds” – decarbonization, digitalization and decentralization.
The Vice President of Energy Club separately focused on the importance of energy storage systems for the integration of renewable energy sources and decarbonization of the energy system. He also noted that the maximum efficiency of these systems can be achieved only through significant digitalization, the deployment of smart grids, demand response systems and demand management.
Valeriy Bezus emphasized the relevance of the issue of decentralization of energy generation in the context of war and terrorist attacks by Russia. He gave an example of the construction of photovoltaic power generation facilities in combination with energy storage facilities at water supply and wastewater treatment facilities in Ukrainian cities.
The Vice President of Energy Club expressed optimism about the future practical application of energy storage systems in the process of restoration and development of both the energy system of Ukraine and the entire national economy.
