Ukraine needs to build additional nuclear power plant generating capacity to ensure a relatively low price for electricity for the economy and household consumers. This was reported by Energy Club Vice President Ivan Hryhoruk.

“This is necessary taking into account the post-war development of the national economy, industrial issues, and the issue of fulfilling the functions of the PSO – special duties that provide cheaper electricity for household consumers,” the expert noted.

He confirmed that international partners, in particular the IAEA, can help Ukraine realize its intention to complete the construction of two units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP, which are 75% and 25% complete each.

It was previously reported that the US and the EU publicly supported Ukraine’s intention to develop nuclear energy. In particular, to complete the construction of two units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

As is known, the Ukrainian government has approved the project to complete the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytskyi KhNPP. This will add an additional 2.2 GW of capacity to the system.
