Kateryna Litvinko: The Future of Energy in Ukraine Begins Today

28.05.2025

German quality and Ukrainian professionalism are an effective tandem, thanks to which Phoenix Contact LLC holds a leading position in the Ukrainian market, actively implementing innovations in electrification, networking, and automation on the path to a smart world.

For over 20 years, Phoenix Contact LLC – a subsidiary of the German company Phoenix Contact, which is engaged in the comprehensive production of electrotechnical components and automation systems – has been a leader in the field of electrical engineering. The company’s products are used in agricultural and industrial sectors, hydro and renewable energy, and more.

Phoenix Contact LLC is a partner of the forum “Energy System in the Name of the Consumer: The Voice of Industry for Energy Security and Technological Development,” which will take place in Kyiv on June 12.

“This forum brings together precisely those participants who not only talk about changes but also implement them. And it is important for us to be among them,” emphasized Kateryna Litvinko, Commercial Director of Phoenix Contact LLC, who, in an exclusive interview with Energy Club, spoke about the challenges facing consumers today, important steps to ensure a stable and efficient energy supply for industry, and what the company will focus on during the forum.

– Ms. Kateryna, why does your company support the forum as a partner? What specifically attracted you to the idea of this event?

– Phoenix Contact has been a member of the Energy Club for many years, and we always try to support events organized by this community, as it is not just an opportunity to present ourselves as a company. Primarily, for us, it is a chance to communicate with those who are genuinely shaping Ukraine’s energy security. We are confident that the sustainable development of industry and energy in Ukraine is possible only through openness, partnership, and a willingness to share experience.

This forum brings together precisely those participants who not only talk about changes but also implement them. And it is important for us to be among them. As a German innovative company with over 100 years of history, we are always ready to support Ukrainian partners and share our experience and solutions that are already working both in Ukraine and around the world.

– In your opinion, how can partnering with the Energy Club at the forum be beneficial for your company?

– For us, participation in such forums is not about a logo on a banner, but primarily an opportunity to become part of a community where the vision for the future of energy and industry in Ukraine is being formed. It’s a chance to share real stories of implementing energy-efficient solutions, and to discuss problems and opportunities directly with representatives of the state, industry, and the energy sector. Furthermore, it’s unique networking – new partners, new projects, new ideas that are born during panel discussions or over a cup of coffee during breaks.

– What are the main problems or challenges, in your opinion, that industrial consumers face today in the energy sector? Can the forum help in resolving them?

– Of course, the first and most painful challenge is the instability of the energy supply. Due to the war and damage to critical infrastructure, enterprises are forced to operate under the constant risk of production stoppage. And this isn’t just about electricity – it’s about plans, budgets, and even job preservation.

Another problem is the difficulty in implementing modern energy-efficient technologies. Often, this is not due to a lack of solutions, but rather a shortage of qualified personnel, a lack of funding, or weak integration of digital solutions into old infrastructure.

The issue of energy autonomy is also acute. Many enterprises are already looking towards renewable energy, energy storage systems, and consumption automation. However, there is often a lack of experience, ready-made solutions, and a unified approach, which hinders investment in such projects.

– What is the main idea or message your company will present at the forum? What do you plan to convey to the participants?

– At Phoenix Contact, we build our strategy around the global vision of an All Electric Society — a world where energy from renewable sources is available in sufficient quantities and at acceptable prices. This is not a utopia, but a clear engineering plan that we are moving towards today thanks to our technologies and partners.

At the forum, we decided to focus specifically on the practical experience of Ukrainian companies that are already implementing these principles. In particular, solutions from our partner, PowerU, which develops energy storage systems in Ukraine, will be presented. This is a key component of energy resilience, especially in conditions of unstable supply or autonomous operation of enterprises.

We believe that such examples are proof that the future of energy in Ukraine can be built today. And it will definitely be electric, and most importantly – managed, predictable, and reliable.

– In your opinion, what is the most important step that needs to be taken to ensure a stable and efficient energy supply for Ukrainian industry?

– The most important step is to transition from a reactive to a proactive approach in energy management. That is, not just patching problems “here and now,” but systematically building energy resilience for the future.

For industry, this means three things: decentralization, i.e., the development of its own generation, especially from renewable sources, and the implementation of energy storage systems; automation and digitalization — enterprises must clearly know how and when they consume energy to optimize processes and reduce dependence on peak loads; and also integration into energy ecosystems, i.e., forming microgrids and cooperating with distribution system operators.

This is precisely how what we at Phoenix Contact call the All Electric Society is built — not just a “green dream,” but a system where every consumer can be both a producer and part of a smart grid. And the sooner we start this movement, the less we will depend on external factors — whether it’s war, climate challenges, or economic crises.
