The Ukrainian energy market today interests many European players. But almost every conversation starts with the same questions: what are the rules, what are the risks, where is the entry point, and with whom can projects be done in practice. That is why we at Energy Club continue the practice of professional meetings abroad and in early June are holding the Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum 2026 in Budapest.
Energy Club — the largest business association of energy companies in Ukraine. We work with the market daily and understand well which questions are key for investors, traders, technology companies, and financial partners. Our task is to make the dialogue as practical and useful as possible for all parties.
The logic of holding the forum is simple. At the beginning of summer, Budapest traditionally becomes a meeting place for the energy community of Central and Eastern Europe. Many participants are already planning a trip to the region, and we use this logistics to gather people for a conversation about Ukraine specifically, without general declarations.
Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum is a continuation of our experience in 2024. Then it became obvious: there is interest in Ukraine, but the market lacks clear explanations of exactly how tools and processes work. This refers to access to infrastructure, financial mechanisms, and risk management practice.
In 2026, we are expanding the focus. Yes, energy trading remains important, but the central theme is broader: recovery and modernization of the energy system. What exactly will be built, with what funds, in what formats, and where business can enter into partnership with Ukrainian companies.
After the war, the talk will not be about cosmetic repairs, but about creating a more decentralized and resilient system. For European technology companies, equipment manufacturers, engineering and construction contractors, as well as financial partners, this means specific opportunities. At the same time, this also means clear requirements: speed of decision-making, predictability, fulfillment of regulatory and ethical standards, transparent structure of projects. At the forum, we want to break these issues down: which solutions are needed first, what the financing structure usually looks like, and what formats of cooperation actually work.
A separate block will be dedicated to the practical changes of the 2026–2027 season, in particular market integration and market coupling mechanisms. We plan to talk about what interests market participants in real work: auctions, settlements, interaction procedures, technical steps, and the responsibility of the parties.
The focus will also be on the gas direction. Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities remain an important asset for Europe, and the key question for non-residents is one: how to reduce risks and make work predictable.
Of course, the development of RES and distributed generation will be a key topic of the forum. We see that the interest of European business is shifting from traditional resources to renewable energy technologies and energy storage. Ukraine has the potential to become one of Europe’s largest platforms for the development of wind and solar generation, as well as energy storage systems. But investors need specifics: how the support mechanisms will work, what the conditions for connecting to the grids are, and how to structure projects in wartime conditions. These are the practical cases we will bring up for discussion, because decentralization for us is a matter not only of ecology but also of the physical security of the system.
We have already started working on the forum program. In the near future, we will present the final topics, format blocks, and the list of speakers. Follow Energy Club news and forum announcements and join in forming the agenda. It is important to us that the program meets real market demands, so we are open to suggestions from participants and partners.
We deliberately schedule the forum on the eve of a large meeting of traders in the region so that participants can effectively plan their trip. In one visit, they will receive a contact base, an up-to-date picture of the Ukrainian market, and an understanding of where quick solutions are possible and where longer investment cycles are needed.
I invite everyone who looks at Ukraine not only as a trading market, but as a space for long-term partnership: technological, investment, and infrastructural.
