Without PPO and market tariffs, the energy system cannot be restored

24.05.2024

During a speech on the air of the telethon “United News”, Energy Club Vice President Maksym Nemchynov spoke about the situation in Ukraine’s energy sector as a result of Russian shelling.

According to him, due to enemy attacks, Ukraine lost about 8 GW of generating capacity, including shunting generation, necessary for balancing the system. Restoring damaged facilities requires a lot of time and money.

“The population’s debt for consumed electricity as of April 2023 reached UAH 30 billion. There is a possibility that power outages will last for about 2 more years,” said Maksym Nemchynov.

In his opinion, to stabilize the situation, it is necessary to increase tariffs for consumers to the market level, taking into account compensation for vulnerable segments of the population. This will allow accumulating funds for repairs and modernization of the energy system.

The Energy Club Vice President also emphasized the importance of developing renewable energy, “smart” networks, attracting investments and importing electricity. At the same time, protecting energy facilities from enemy attacks is possible only with the presence of air defense.

Maksym Nemchynov called on consumers to change their habits, save electricity, and realize the critical situation in the industry.
