Participation in the EKU balancing group makes it possible electricity producers and industrial consumers to optimize electricity imbalances that arise in enterprises due to the inability to 100% accurately predict consumption or production.

The State Balancing Group of the EKU, established in November 2022, is the largest in Ukraine in terms of operations. It includes the country’s leading electricity producer – the operator of nuclear power plants NNEGC Energoatom, leading producers of green electricity (wind power plants, solar power plants, bioenergy), as well as large enterprises – leaders in key sectors of the economy.

“Among the participants of our balancing group are a large number of state-owned enterprises. Previously, they incurred significant costs due to electricity imbalances. Joining the EKU balancing group significantly reduced these costs. The total effect for the public sector since the start of the balancing group has already exceeded UAH 1 billion,” said Vitaliy Butenko, General Director of the EKU.

The large size of the balancing group and the participation of various types of electricity producers in it provide a high level of imbalance optimization, which increases with the accession of new participants. At the same time, EKU is also constantly increasing it, introducing new analytical, IT and other tools. Thus, starting in August, the company begins to provide customers with commercial electricity metering services, which allows for better forecasting of electricity consumption / production volumes and, accordingly, also contributes to the reduction of imbalances.
