On February 3, Energy Club held an expert discussion titled “The Future of Thermal Energy: Between Decentralization and Reality.

Amid constant threats to the energy infrastructure, leading experts, government officials, and business representatives gathered to discuss a new heat supply strategy and find a balance between centralized generation and decentralized solutions.

Here are the key insights from the event speaker.

The Head of the Restoration Agency stressed that security factors now take priority over economic efficiency and advocated for a decentralized approach in large cities.

“Districts like Troieshchyna can be secured with heat within a single year by building local gas boiler houses. We understand that the internal electricity needs of Kyiv’s strategic enterprises are approximately 300-350 MW. Large volumes of gas-piston stations are already being contracted, and the first units are arriving in the capital.

Personally, I would proceed district by district, implementing decentralized power and heat generation. Kyiv must decide its own path, but today the security factor is much higher than classic efficiency.”
