Course “Distributed Generation: A Step Towards Ukraine’s Energy Independence”
The course “Distributed Generation: A Step Towards Ukraine’s Energy Independence” is organized by Energy Club specifically for representatives of territorial communities. The course program consists of six modules and covers a wide range of topics, from the basic principles of distributed generation to the practical aspects of project implementation.
Online training is attended by representatives of local governments, including heads and secretaries of rural, settlement, and city councils and specialists from economic development, housing and communal services, and energy departments, public activists and environmentalists, as well as investors interested in distributed generation projects. Among them is Stanislav Krupoderia, director of LLC “Cogen Plus.”
“This course is interesting to me from the perspective of business development,” he says. “Since 2012, I have been professionally involved in development and distributed generation – investing, building, connecting. Now we plan to install a cogeneration unit in the Poltava region. Of course, scaling is of interest – how to work with territorial communities. And in this context, the training is very useful, because you can understand the position of territorial communities, hear the problems they face. This is a request from an investor who is ready to invest money but wants to understand how this market works.
I would like a more intensive learning process, but in general, the course meets my request. In fact, it confirms what we encounter in practice. I would definitely recommend this course to all heads of local governments. It would be good if Energy Club cooperated with the Association of Small Cities of Ukraine. Energy Club is an association of leading energy companies, an accumulation of knowledge and experience. And representatives of territorial communities need this kind of knowledge to understand the processes in the energy sector and community development.”
In the course, listeners learn about the types of distributed generation (solar power plants, wind power plants, biogas plants, etc.), the prospects for renewable energy development in wartime and the post-war period, the benefits of distributed generation for territorial communities (energy independence, reduced electricity costs, job creation). The training format includes online lectures from leading experts in the energy sector, members of Energy Club. These include Valerii Bezus – Vice President of Energy Club, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (2021-2023), Volodymyr Gromko – Deputy Director of Ligret Group of Companies, Oleksandr Alokhin – Head of the Ukrainian Division of Digital Power Huawei, Serhii Kucher – international expert of CIGRE-Ukraine.
Upon completion of the courses, a forum will be held to exchange experiences among participants.
The public union “All-Ukrainian Energy Assembly” unites energy companies and professionals to solve key tasks of the energy sector and, through the Association of Cities of Ukraine, interacts with territorial communities. The Association also cooperates with Energy Club and participates in events organized by the club.
The director of the union, Vasyl Lysenko, is a student of the course “Distributed Generation: A Step Towards Ukraine’s Energy Independence”: “The training is incredibly useful, considering the conditions in which we live during the war in our country. It is necessary to strengthen energy security, and decentralized or distributed generation is the number one task in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to enterprises and the population. I think that after completing the course, we could be involved in the implementation of distributed generation projects as experts with at least theoretical experience.
I already have a list of ideas for the systematic, professional, and internationally standardized construction and commissioning of distributed generation facilities. I would recommend this course to business representatives – organizations and firms operating in the energy sector, and practicing specialists. In my opinion, it would be worthwhile to form a general training course on generation for representatives of territorial communities and entrepreneurs, to explain how the energy market works, and to organize visits to various energy facilities.”
