Joint Stock Company “Chernihivoblenergo” – one of the leading DSO (Distribution System Operators) in the northern region of Ukraine, is a constant participant in charitable football tournaments organized by Energy Club. This year, at Energy Cup Spring 2025, following the draw, the team will play in Group D along with Zaporizhzhia NPP and the Directorate of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”.
“The full-scale war with Russia disrupted the usual way of life not only for every Ukrainian individually but also fundamentally changed the plans of large enterprises and small firms. JSC “Chernihivoblenergo” was no exception. Instead of upgrading networks and implementing more and more innovative technologies in its work, since February 2022, Chernihiv energy workers have had to direct all their resources (both human and financial) to eliminating the consequences of Russian aggression – restoring broken lines, repairing damaged substations, replacing out-of-order equipment. Of course, in such conditions, the corporate life of the company also changed dramatically,” said Ivan Tymoshenko, chairman of the trade union committee of JSC “Chernihivoblenergo,” in an interview with the media department of Energy Club.
“Chernihivoblenergo” is a true energy family that has always loved spending not only working but also personal time together. At any time of the year, its employees eagerly gathered for various sports tournaments – football, volleyball, hockey, big tennis, table tennis, bowling, chess, played “National Quiz,” competed in the art of fishing, went on excursions in large groups to different parts of Ukraine, rested together within weekend tours, attended concerts and theatrical performances. However, starting from 2022, the company’s trade union committee, which organized all these events, threw all its efforts into volunteering – purchasing ammunition and necessary equipment for the military, weaving camouflage nets, donating blood, transferring children’s drawings and amulets to the Armed Forces units, etc. But already in mid-2022, the trade union leadership realized: useful could be combined with pleasant.
Thus, on July 29, 2022, “Chernihivoblenergo” held a football tournament between teams of the company’s structural and separate divisions for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion. The tournament was charitable. Thanks to it, a significant amount was raised to help energy workers who are currently defending Ukraine’s freedom at the front. After that, all corporate events of the enterprise are held primarily for charitable purposes – raising aid for the military.
“Our company’s employees gladly participate in other charitable initiatives organized by local authorities and our fellow energy workers from other regions. Charitable tournaments of ‘Energy Club’ were no exception,” says Ivan Tymoshenko. “Now, all of us must unite and do everything possible to support our defenders, so all events that have a charitable purpose will always find support in our company. Moreover, they allow not only to help the military but also for energy workers themselves to rest, communicate with colleagues in an informal setting, share experiences, consult on solving certain problems, or even suggest an effective solution to someone else’s issue. After all, over the past three years, energy workers have gained simply incredible experience working in difficult and dangerous conditions. And perhaps someone’s advice will greatly help others in their work or even personal life.”
Regarding the team selection process, first and foremost, it’s the personal desire of the players themselves, noted the chairman of the trade union committee of JSC “Chernihivoblenergo”: “Our company has a formed football active that loves this game very much and regularly attends training sessions. Amateur footballers (none of whom are professional footballers) formed the basis of the ‘Chernihivoblenergo’ team that will participate in the tournament.
Firstly, of course, we are happy to join another charitable initiative. Secondly, it’s a good opportunity to test ourselves against unfamiliar opponents whose playing skills you don’t know, and therefore you get very good experience in any case. Thirdly, it’s a real support for corporate spirit, even if the team doesn’t end up on the list of competition leaders.
So we wish all participating teams a good game, the result they are counting on, and may the most enduring, fastest, and most accurate win!”
