Energy Club is a community of energy professionals that brings together experts, analysts and company executives to exchange knowledge, experience and ideas. We are committed to developing the energy sector and supporting its participants in an environment of constant change. Energy Club regularly holds conferences, forums and seminars dedicated to current energy issues.

Ukrainian energy today is not only based on regulation, financing or equipment. It is based on engineers – people who transform strategies into technical conditions, design solutions, connections, construction, operation and real megawatts. The From Project to Megawatt: Engineering of New Energy in Ukraine forum was created as a practical platform for technical specialists who directly design, build, modernize and operate energy infrastructure.

The discussion is not focused on general statements, but on practical issues: how to launch new energy facilities in wartime, how to connect to networks, how to combine generation and storage, how to avoid typical mistakes at the design stage, how to calculate the technical and economic model of BESS, solar power plants, wind power plants, cogeneration and local power plants.

Panel 1. From idea to connection: how to launch new energy facilities under grid constraints

Key questions for discussion

  • What is the biggest obstacle to new energy projects today: technical network limitations, connection rules, equipment shortages, approvals or errors at the design stage?
  • How should the approach to technical conditions change so that new generation and storage facilities appear in the system faster, and do not remain only in project documentation?
  • Why can the network look overloaded on paper, although in fact there is a capacity deficit in the system? How to correctly assess the real profiles of generation, consumption and BESS operation from an engineering perspective?
  • What typical mistakes are made at the stage of the general plan, selection of the connection point, placement of equipment, security zones, access roads and engineering networks?
  • What should be taken into account when designing energy facilities in conditions of military risks: redundancy, modularity, equipment protection, logistics, maintainability, speed of node replacement?
  • How to shorten the path from technical concept to commissioning of the facility without losing quality, safety and compliance with regulations?

Panel 2. Generation, BESS and cogeneration: which technical solutions really work for energy sustainability

Key questions for discussion

  • Which technologies today provide the greatest practical effect for energy sustainability: BESS, cogeneration, gas generation, solar power, wind power, heat pumps or hybrid solutions?
  • How to correctly determine what a specific facility needs: backup power, constant generation, balancing, reduction of consumption peaks, heat, savings or the ability to work on the market?
  • Where is BESS most valuable: in industry, in renewables, in balancing, in local power centers, in critical infrastructure or in networks?
  • What are the most common mistakes when choosing power, capacity, inverters, EMS, protection systems, fire safety and BESS operating modes?
  • Cogeneration for cities and industry: how to correctly calculate the electrical and thermal load so that the project works economically, and not just looks nice in the presentation?
  • What should be the service and operational model for the new distributed generation: spare parts, repair, monitoring, SCADA, cybersecurity, personnel and responsibility for equipment availability?
  • How to combine the technical solution with the market model: balancing market, self-consumption, PPA, aggregation, surplus sales, reservation?
  • What needs to change in the approaches of engineers, customers and management so that technical solutions can be converted into real megawatts faster?
