Phoenix Contact LLC is a subsidiary of the German company Phoenix Contact, which is engaged in the comprehensive production of electrical components and automation systems – from modular terminal blocks and electrical tools to interface technology and controllers. Phoenix Contact products are used wherever it is necessary to combine or separate power and data transmission, or control them. These can be industrial enterprises, the traditional and renewable energy industry, infrastructure or the connection of complex devices.
History
Phoenix Contact was founded in Germany in 1923 as a sales agency for electrical products and sold terminals for contact wires for electric trams. In 1928, together with the Rhine-Westphalian Power Works (Rheinisch-Westfälische Elektrizitätswerken, abbreviated RWE), Phoenix Contact developed the first modular terminal block, which consisted of a ceramic housing and metal clips. For many years, the company produced terminal blocks from materials purchased from suppliers. In order to ensure independence from suppliers, the decision was made in 1953 to establish its own production facilities. In 1957, the first plants for the production of screws and plastic parts for terminal blocks were built in Blomberg. Since then, the range of products, systems, solutions and technologies has grown rapidly. In particular, with the development of electronics, the company began to produce surge protection and interface technology. In 1987, the INTERBUS fieldbus system became a revolutionary breakthrough in automation: it offered a completely open system from sensor to controller. Since the early 1980s, Phoenix Contact has been establishing subsidiaries abroad. In the mid-1980s, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA joined them. In 2005, the Ukrainian subsidiary Phoenix Contact LLC was founded with an office and warehouse in Kiev. In 2007, the company’s worldwide turnover amounted to around 1.072 billion euros. Thus, Phoenix Contact has established itself as a leader in the electrical engineering and automation market. Today, the company has 17,500 employees worldwide and a turnover of more than 2.5 billion euros.
