The state-owned energy supply company Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) transferred UAH 761.4 million to Ukraine’s state budget based on its 2024 performance – nearly four times more than its contributions the previous year.
This amount includes UAH 104.8 million in dividends and UAH 656.6 million in taxes and other payments.
In terms of dividend payments, ECU ranked first among all enterprises managed by the State Property Fund of Ukraine (SPFU), the authorized governing body of the company.
“ECU demonstrates how a state-owned enterprise can operate effectively in a competitive market while advancing the strategic interests of the country – from ensuring energy security to supporting the national budget. It’s a remarkable example of building a high-performing public company from the ground up – driven by professionalism, strategic vision, and the ability to meet complex market challenges,” said Ivanna Smachylo, Acting Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
“Our strategy is built on two core paradigms: energy security and economic efficiency. We provide reliable, uninterrupted electricity supply – especially to critically important consumers – while competing in a dynamic market. The combination of these approaches allows ECU to create long-term market value and be a trusted partner for both the state and society,” said Vitaly Butenko, CEO of ECU.
ECU is an electricity supplier to Ukraine’s major strategic enterprises, one of the largest importers of electricity from the EU, the operator of Ukraine’s largest balancing group, and the operator of the state-owned aggregated group that supports the growth of distributed generation. The company’s clients generate 10% of Ukraine’s GDP.
JSC “Energy Company of Ukraine” (ECU) is a national energy supplier and a leading trader of electricity, including import and export. ECU established Ukraine’s largest state balancing group and ranks among the top two off-takers of green electricity. Its clients generate 10% of the country’s GDP.
As a distributed generation operator, ECU partners with communities and businesses to provide comprehensive solutions that enhance their energy security while ensuring cost-effective operations. This includes participation in aggregated group and cooperation within an “active consumer” framework.
ECU is fully state-owned and managed by the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
