In recent years, energy security for Ukrainian businesses has evolved from an optional feature into a fundamental requirement for survival. Massive attacks on energy infrastructure and rising electricity costs have compelled enterprises to seek systemic solutions rather than temporary fixes.
One of the experts whose practical work is directly linked to these challenges is Demian Krutchenko, a specialist in industrial energy storage systems and co-founder of the Ukrainian engineering company Rayton. The company specializes in the design and implementation of solar power plants and energy storage systems (ESS) for business and industry.
In light of current trends and the needs of the Ukrainian energy market, the Energy Club media department reached out to Demian Krutchenko to analyze the current challenges facing businesses and potential strategies to overcome them.
During the discussion, the expert outlined his vision for the transformation of corporate energy strategies—moving from emergency backup systems to comprehensive solutions based on energy storage, onsite generation, and integrated demand-side management.
According to Demian Krutchenko, enterprises today face two critical issues:
From Backup to Autonomy
Rayton operates in the segment of comprehensive energy solutions—ranging from consumption analytics and design to the integration of solar power plants, industrial ESS, and existing generation sources. This approach enables enterprises to transition from simple emergency backup to full energy autonomy.
According to Demian Krutchenko’s assessment, Industrial Energy Storage Systems (ESS) now function as a strategic investment tool. They allow businesses to:
Real-World Impact
Since the start of the full-scale war, the Rayton team under Demian Krutchenko’s leadership has implemented over 100 MW of solar power plants and 40 MW of industrial energy storage systems across Ukraine. These facilities have already generated a total of over 62 million kWh of electricity, ensuring energy resilience for enterprises in manufacturing, agribusiness, logistics, and retail.
The expert emphasizes that the development of decentralized energy solutions is vital not only for individual companies but for the stability of the national economy as a whole.
“Energy autonomy for business is no longer a matter of comfort or image. It is the foundation of the country’s economic resilience and the ability of enterprises to operate even under crisis conditions,” says Demian Krutchenko.
The experience of implementing decentralized energy solutions in the Ukrainian business environment demonstrates a gradual shift in energy resource management—from reactive crisis management to strategic resilience planning. The combination of onsite generation, storage systems, and digital consumption analysis is increasingly viewed by enterprises as a key tool for maintaining competitiveness in an unstable environment.
The expert vision and practical experience of Demian Krutchenko, shared in this dialogue with Energy Club, point toward a new model of energy consumption: one that is more autonomous, flexible, and economically sound. Its growth has the potential not only to strengthen individual companies but also to bolster the overall long-term resilience of the Ukrainian economy.
