The Energy Club has sent a collective appeal to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk, regarding the critical situation on the spot electricity market. The letter, signed by the Club’s President and the heads of 22 market participant companies, calls for an urgent response to prevent a systemic energy crisis.
The appeal emphasizes that in recent weeks, the market has experienced an anomalous, economically unjustified drop in the spot price of approximately 40% compared to August, which market participants consider to be artificial. According to preliminary calculations, the losses of independent suppliers and traders amounted to over UAH 650 million in the first 5 days of September alone.
This crisis, as noted in the letter, is triggering a chain reaction:
Most importantly, this situation undermines the accumulation of financial resources needed for the challenging autumn-winter period (AWP) and jeopardizes the stable functioning of the entire energy system.
Among the key demands put forward in the letter are the immediate convocation of an interdepartmental anti-crisis meeting with the participation of the Ministry of Energy, NEURC, NPC “Ukrenergo,” key producers, and market participants, as well as a temporary adjustment of regulatory policy to counteract artificial dumping.
Crisis Discussion to Continue Tomorrow at an Emergency Online Meeting
To discuss this problem and consolidate further actions, the Energy Club will hold an urgent online meeting tomorrow, September 9, at 12:00 PM, titled “Power Market Crisis — Falling Prices and a Threat to the 2025/2026 AWP.”
The meeting will be moderated by Maksym Nemchynov, Vice President of the Energy Club and former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
During the event, representatives of the Club’s member companies and market experts will openly discuss the causes of the crisis, its consequences, and formulate a common vision of the necessary steps to stabilize the market.
The Energy Club stresses that further ignoring the situation could lead to a cascading exit of suppliers from the market and a systemic energy crisis in the coming months.
