Energy Club Vice President Ivan Grygoruk commented on the situation surrounding the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP in the morning program “Wake Up!” on the TV channel “WE UKRAINE +”.
Discussions are ongoing in Ukraine regarding the feasibility of completing the construction of two reactors at the Khmelnytskyi NPP. Some experts believe that it will be cheaper and faster than building from scratch, and will allow Ukraine to generate more electricity. Others argue that such construction is impractical, and propose to focus on distributed generation and the use of local energy resources.
Ivan Hryhoruk noted that in the event that Ukraine cannot buy reactors in Bulgaria, other options for using such technologies as Westinghouse IP 1000, the French EPR 2 or the South Korean APR 1400 will most likely be considered.
“In the event that some other (technology – ed.) is chosen, in addition to the Bulgarian VVER 1000/446 V, it will be necessary to dismantle the infrastructure that was built before that, at X-3 and X-4,” explained Ivan Grygoruk.
We remind you that the Verkhovna Rada supported the purchase of two reactors for the Khmelnytskyi NPP in Bulgaria, but the latter is in no hurry to sell yet.
