On October 15, Energy Club will host its second forum, “The Energy of Women’s Leadership: Women Holding Ukraine’s Energy Front.” We want the forum to become an annual event and for the connections made there to extend beyond a single day.
The reason is simple. Women in Energy Club member companies lead businesses and teams and are responsible for finance, electricity trading, legal matters, investment, human resources and communications. Their decisions can determine whether a company meets its commitments to partners and remains operational. During the war, this responsibility has grown: teams need to be retained, budgets reviewed, lost resources replaced, and development planned at the same time. Many women are also caring for children and relatives separated from them by the war.
The energy sector itself is changing. Digitalisation, distributed generation, energy storage, new trading models and demand-side management require engineers, analysts, project managers, regulatory specialists and finance professionals. This creates opportunities both for those already working in the energy sector and for those who are only beginning to choose their career path.
The labour market situation is also challenging. Due to the war, migration and mobilisation, companies are investing more in training and preparing successors for key positions. Ensuring women have access to management roles should be part of this approach.
For employers, this raises practical questions: how to recognise an employee’s potential and entrust her with a more complex project; how to help her acquire a new specialisation; and how to retain an experienced professional when her personal circumstances change. Companies can benefit from sharing their approaches and solutions.
That is why we want to build a professional community of women from Energy Club member companies – a space where they can meet colleagues, seek advice on workplace challenges, find support or a partner for a joint project. I believe the most valuable conversations are those between people with different experiences. For a young professional, speaking with a woman in a leadership position can help her see her own career prospects more clearly, while a leader can gain new ideas from colleagues working in other segments of the market. These connections can grow into mentoring relationships and joint projects.
At the forum, we will discuss crisis management, teams, operational resilience, investment and recovery. We are inviting participants to share concrete experiences: what worked, what had to be reconsidered, and what was missing.
We invite women from Energy Club member companies – executives, professionals and those who are just starting their careers in the energy sector – to register. See you in Kyiv on October 15.
