Energy Club Continues Market Crisis Analysis: Two Expert Discussions on Price Collapse and Data Transparency Announced

19.09.2025

Energy Club is continuing its series of events dedicated to the crisis situation on the electricity market. Following up on the emergency online meeting held on September 9 and after sending collective appeals to state authorities, we will host two in-depth expert discussions next week to analyze the causes and consequences of the crisis in detail.

Both events will be moderated by Maksym Nemchynov, Vice President of Energy Club and former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.

Monday, September 22, 12:00 PM — Online Discussion “Electricity Market: Why Did Prices Collapse in September?”

The September price shock, where day-ahead market (DAM) prices fell by 40% despite a stable supply and demand balance, triggered a systemic crisis and caused billions in losses for market participants.

At this meeting, we will focus on the root causes of this collapse. Discussion questions:

  • What were the key factors that led to the collapse of DAM prices in September 2025?
  • Are the current competition and market structure transparent?
  • How will market coupling with the EU change the rules of the game for Ukraine?

Wednesday, September 24, 2:00 PM — Online Discussion “Operating ‘Blind’: Why the Lack of Open Data Threatens Ukraine’s Energy Security?”

The recent crisis exposed another, deeper problem — a critical lack of transparency and access to key market data. Operating in an “information vacuum” makes forecasting impossible and creates a breeding ground for market distortions.

At this meeting, we will discuss why a return to transparency is a matter of survival for the market. Discussion questions:

  • What specific data are market participants critically lacking today for stable operations?
  • How is the lack of data related to the recent DAM price collapse?
  • Why does the position of Ukrainian state authorities contradict REMIT requirements, and is the reference to martial law a sufficient justification?
  • What is the roadmap to transparency that meets European standards?

Both events will be livestreamed on Energy Club’s LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook pages.

We invite all market participants and experts to join these important discussions to collectively find ways to stabilize and develop the Ukrainian energy market.
