About forum

In 2026, the Ukrainian energy market is undergoing the most significant transformation in its history. After operating for over a year without Russian gas transit and amidst a massive decentralization of generation, Ukraine is emerging as a new frontier of opportunity for European traders and investors.

The Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum 2026 in Budapest is the meeting point for those who do not just observe changes but capitalize on them. We will discuss how the reconstruction of the energy system creates new trading instruments, how Market Coupling works in practice, and how to leverage Ukrainian gas storage as a stable asset for the EU.

Event program

1
Energy Recovery as a Business Case
  • Trading New Capacities: How the boom in distributed gas generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Ukraine is reshaping the balancing market. Opportunities for international players.
  • Investment vs. Guarantees: War risk insurance mechanisms for traders and investors entering Ukrainian energy assets.
  • Corporate PPA: Long-term contracts as a financing tool for rebuilding green generation.
2
Electricity – The Era of Market Coupling
  • Unified Market (SDAC/SIDC): Ukraine as a full participant in the European Spot market. First lessons from Market Coupling and its impact on pricing.
  • Cross-Border Trading: Expanding interconnection capacity — plans towards 2030 and removing bottlenecks at the borders.
  • Guarantees of Origin (GoO): Launch of a fully functional market for green certificates. Exporting Ukrainian “green value” to the EU.
3
Gas & Biomethane – New Logistics
  • 1.5 Years Without Transit: How gas flow maps in Eastern Europe have shifted. The role of the Ukrainian GTS in supplying Central Europe with gas from LNG terminals and the Vertical Corridor.
  • UGS 2.0: New products from Ukrainian gas storages for European traders. Restoring trust after infrastructure attacks.
  • Biomethane – From Talk to Export: Removing final barriers for physical and commercial export. Case studies of the first successful cross-border deals.
4
Regulatory Horizon
  • REMIT & Transparency: Market monitoring in Ukraine under EU standards. Protection against manipulation.
  • Carbon Tax (CBAM): How carbon pricing affects Ukrainian electricity exports.
