On February 18, Energy Club hosted an online meeting “Technologies and Solutions for Community Energy Security.” The primary challenge for Ukrainian municipalities and businesses today is ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to critical infrastructure facilities during the war. Hanna Pozdniakova, Director of RSE Group Ukraine, presented ready-made universal solutions that allow for the creation of autonomous “energy islands” within a few months. Here are the key highlights of her presentation.
RSE is a Czech company (founded in 2023) with production facilities located in Brno. An official representative office and a separate service company operate in Ukraine, employing about 50 specialists for installation supervision and commissioning. To date, over 500 modules have been shipped to Ukraine, with nearly 300 already in operation. In total, equipment with a capacity of about 900 MW has been installed. The company does not just supply cogeneration units but builds an adaptive centralized energy infrastructure.
The gas engine lineup covers capacities from 400 kW to 4.5 MW. Electrical and thermal efficiency exceeds 90%. The engines are H2-ready, prepared to operate with hydrogen blending — a European eco-trend that Ukraine is also confidently pursuing. Additionally, the company produces up to 400 steam and hot water waste heat boilers per year at its facilities in the Czech Republic.
RSE offers modern industrial heat pumps that easily integrate with cogeneration units (up to 10 modules in one system) or energy storage systems. Their main innovation is the propane turbo-compressor. Europe is actively phasing out freon in favor of propane due to strict environmental regulations. These propane solutions allow clients to be ready for future standards today. The pumps are oil-free, operate quietly without vibration, and demonstrate impressive COP values from 4.5 to 7.2 depending on the ambient temperature. Even at sub-zero temperatures, efficiency remains at 4.5.
Industrial batteries (energy storage systems) are a universal solution for grid stabilization. For example, in the port sector, they successfully compensate for fluctuations during diesel generator operation. In another completed project, the combination of 4 cogeneration units with storage systems allows feeding the first kilowatt of electricity into the grid just 30 seconds after the dispatcher’s command.
In the face of targeted energy infrastructure destruction, there is a huge demand for mobile power plants:
All RSE technologies (cogeneration, boilers, heat pumps, batteries) can be combined into a single comprehensive project. Such synergy increases overall system efficiency to nearly 95%. Today, the company has about 150 clients in Ukraine and covers 70% of the Ukrainian market in its segment by the number of units shipped.
