The energy situation in Ukraine remains challenging, forcing businesses and communities to seek rapid paths to autonomy. However, the market is currently facing equipment shortages and long lead times. We spoke with Oleksii Semenystyi, Director of the engineering company PROEKTELEKTROMEREZHBUD LLC (PEMB Engineering), to discuss how to quickly secure backup power for facilities and why having equipment in stock is more important today than loud promises.
– Mr. Oleksii, your company has been on the market for over 11 years, specializing in complex turnkey infrastructure projects. How has client demand changed over the past year? Would you say businesses have moved from discussing energy efficiency to taking concrete actions for survival?
– Without a doubt. Previously, we mostly discussed planned modernization or cost optimization; today, the key request is business continuity. Business owners, chief engineers of hospitals, and residential developers all come with one question: “How do we keep running tomorrow?”
We see that classic solutions, like diesel generators, no longer cover all needs. The market requires more intelligent and flexible systems, specifically BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), which allow for hybrid operation modes. But the main problem right now is time. A client cannot wait six months for equipment production; they need a solution “for yesterday.”
– Speaking of time, you recently announced the availability of a large batch of energy storage systems. Could you tell us more about the equipment and why it is crucial right now?
– Yes, we anticipated the direction of the situation and prepared in advance. Currently, approximately 200 units of industrial energy storage systems are available for shipment from our partner warehouse in Germany. These are units with 100 kW power and 211 kWh capacity. We expect another 200 units in April. Why is this important? Because the logistics route from Germany is short. This isn’t an order from Asia with a multi-month waiting period. We are offering equipment that physically exists and is ready for installation. For critical infrastructure or businesses losing money due to downtime, this is the deciding factor.
– What types of facilities are these systems best suited for? Do they require complex engineering before installation?
– It is a universal outdoor solution. The system is designed on an “all-in-one” principle: it comes fully equipped with the necessary power electronics, climate control, and fire suppression systems. This means the client doesn’t need to build a separate room or a complex foundation. Integration into the existing grid is as fast as possible.
As for applications, the range is very wide. First, the social sphere: hospitals, schools, and administrative buildings. Second, the residential sector — modern housing complexes and cottage communities where residents demand comfort. And, of course, industry and logistics, where it is critical to shave peak loads or have guaranteed backup power.
– 100 kW is the base unit. What should an enterprise do if it needs, say, 500 kW or a megawatt?
– Our systems are easily scalable. We can combine them into clusters to achieve virtually any required power and capacity. As an engineering company, we don’t just “ship boxes.” We develop the technical specifications, design the connection scheme, and commission the system. In other words, the client receives a fully operational energy hub tailored to their specific needs.
– Besides the obvious backup function during blackouts, what economic benefits does this equipment provide?
– Backup is the foundation. But BESS also allows for the optimization of electricity costs. You can charge the system at night at a low tariff and use that energy during peak hours when prices are at their highest. Additionally, the system can operate in off-grid mode alongside solar panels, significantly increasing a facility’s autonomy. We offer one of the best prices on the market, making the payback period for such projects quite attractive for Ukrainian businesses.
– PROEKTELEKTROMEREZHBUD LLC is a member of the Energy Club. How can interested Club members get more detailed information or reserve equipment?
– We are open to dialogue. The best way is to contact our specialists directly. We will promptly provide technical specifications, consult on integration possibilities at your facility, and provide estimated delivery dates. Given the high demand, I advise not to delay, as the number of ready-to-use units in stock is limited.
