The Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum 2026, which will take place on June 9 in Budapest, has been joined by an extremely powerful speaker – Willem Coppoolse, Director of the ERU Group (Energy Resources of Ukraine).

About the speaker and his experience Willem Coppoolse is a specialist of the highest international level, with over 25 years of experience in trading, creating and developing businesses in the electricity, gas and renewable energy (RES) markets in Europe. At ERU Group, he is responsible for the strategic strengthening of trading activities and the global development of the company’s business.

His professional background includes key management and advisory positions in Europe’s largest energy companies:

• He worked for over two decades at European energy giants Engie (formerly Gaz de France) and EDF.
• He was responsible for Eastern European markets and Ukraine at Engie.
• He held the position of Trading Director at Naftogaz of Ukraine.
• He acted as a strategic advisor to the GTS Operator of Ukraine (on behalf of the Dutch Gasunie) and advised the Moldovan government during the complex autumn gas negotiations.
• He holds a master’s degree from the prestigious Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and CEMS.

Willem Koppuls’s deep, practical understanding of the mechanisms of operation of both the European and Ukrainian energy markets makes his expertise invaluable to the forum participants. His speech will be particularly relevant in the context of the main topics of the event: market integration (Market Coupling), development of new logistics routes, cross-border trade and the use of Ukrainian underground gas storage (UGS) as a stable asset for the EU.
