Epicentr is a strategic investor in the Ukrainian economy, a leader in retail, and the undisputed No. 1 in the home and construction goods sector.
History
Epicentr K was founded in 2003 by Oleksandr and Halyna Hereha, who built a successful and powerful business on a solid foundation of family and national values. The company’s history began with a small 25 sq. m ceramic tile store on Petra Zaporozhtsia Street in Kyiv.
The business grew rapidly, and by 1997 the idea emerged to establish the first construction hypermarket in Ukraine. The concept was inspired by the French chain Castorama, which Oleksandr Hereha studied during visits to Poland. On December 6, 2003, the first Epicentr hypermarket opened at 11 Bratislavska Street in Kyiv.
The company opened its first three retail outlets in Kyiv, after which it began to expand into other regions. The first Epicenter outside the capital was a store in Lviv, followed by one in Poltava. Next came other cities with populations of over a million: Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Donetsk. Today, the Epicenter chain has 72 shopping centers. The total retail space is over 2 million square meters.
Initially, Epicenter stores operated in the traditional DIY (Do It Yourself) format for construction hypermarkets, but as the range expanded, the retailer gradually moved beyond this format, becoming a chain of shopping and entertainment centers where shoppers can find a full range of non-food products and convenient services.
