Yevhen Miachyn on Financial Solutions for Energy Projects

26.03.2025

Yevhen Miachyn, Director of the Department for Corporate Business Development and Support at JSC “Oschadbank”, a regular participant in Energy Club events, will for the first time appear as a lecturer in the “Distributed Generation” training course.

Yevhen’s lectures provide an excellent opportunity to find financial solutions for future energy projects. They will be useful for both representatives of local communities and businesses. The Director of the Development Department will share Oschadbank’s practical experience in implementing energy projects, as well as information on available financial instruments to support projects in the field of renewable energy. Participants of the Energy Club’s “Distributed Generation” courses will receive answers to questions such as: how to raise funds to create community energy generating capacities, on what terms the bank finances projects, and what proposals are available from international financial organizations that will help make energy projects accessible to all categories of clients and make loans cheaper.

Oschadbank has long been working with municipalities in the direction of financing energy projects. Yevhen Miachyn has already presented the possibilities of obtaining financing by municipalities for the implementation of energy projects at other Energy Club events.

“Oschadbank is a leader in the market for financing municipalities: our market share in community lending is about 60%,” he said. “Today, there is significant demand for investments in energy supply, energy security, and energy efficiency. This includes projects for the construction of wind and solar power plants, and the installation of gas piston cogeneration units. In addition, energy storage installations are now in demand, and Oschadbank already has the first such loan agreement implemented.”

Last year, the state-owned “Oschadbank” almost quadrupled the volume of deals in the energy sector compared to 2023, and increased them ninefold for municipalities, including energy projects. The volume of concluded agreements for energy financing amounted to EUR 45 million in 2024, compared to EUR 12 million in 2023, and for municipalities, it was UAH 1.8 billion, compared to UAH 0.2 billion, respectively.

The development of distributed generation is currently supported by international financial organizations that offer risk-sharing instruments. There are many donor programs, as well as internal bank financing, combined with government support programs.

Here are a few specific examples: last year, Oschadbank financed an energy project in the city of Kamianske for over UAH 120 million for the construction of a solar power plant and the installation of generators and a gas piston unit. In Dnipro, the bank finances energy efficiency projects, primarily related to the insulation of housing stock and communal institutions and organizations. Among international partners, the EBRD, the European Investment Bank, and donor organizations that support energy projects of municipal enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses in the regions are actively assisting territorial communities.

Participate in the lecture from Oschadbank at the “Distributed Generation” training course, and you will learn how to obtain financing for a municipal enterprise, even if it is unprofitable. You will also learn how to install energy equipment on financial leasing terms, how to get a loan for electricity generation if there is no collateral, and you will receive answers to many other questions that arise from potential investors when evaluating a new project, and from communities when choosing instruments to finance their expenditures.
