Oschadbank and Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at simplifying procedures and improving credit terms for new energy projects in Ukrainian territorial communities.
In accordance with the state energy policy focused on developing distributed generation, Oschadbank and ECU have created a joint program to simplify financing and implementation of energy projects at the community level. According to the memorandum, the state energy supplier ECU will conduct economic and technical analysis of community-initiated projects seeking financing. The company will also offer communities market instruments to increase the economic efficiency and sustainability of such projects, including cooperation within self-production mechanisms, aggregated and balancing groups.
Economic models developed by ECU will serve as the basis for Oschadbank’s financial assessment of project profitability and payback period when making lending decisions.
“In our experience, one of the barriers to developing decentralized generation is the lack of relevant expertise in the vast majority of small communities. Engaging ECU’s specialized expertise will enable communities to assess the potential for developing their own energy projects, which can not only ensure uninterrupted energy supply or replace it with their own generation but also generate income for the community budget. Oschadbank has deep expertise in working with energy projects of any complexity, our market share is over 31%. We are pleased that such competence will now be on the client’s side in our cooperation with communities,” noted Yuriy Katsion, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Oschadbank, responsible for corporate business.
“Improving the security of energy supply to state enterprises, critical infrastructure, and territorial communities of Ukraine remains a priority task for ECU. We are constantly seeking and creating ways to strengthen the market paradigm of energy security. Combining the deep market expertise of the ECU team with Oschadbank’s reliable financial platform creates conditions for achieving win-win solutions in one of the most complex but strategically important sectors of energy supply,” emphasized Vitaliy Butenko, CEO of ECU.
