Ukrainian energy is entering a new stage in the development of distributed generation. After large-scale attacks on the energy infrastructure, businesses are increasingly viewing their own generating capacities not just as a backup for blackouts, but as a component of long-term energy resilience.
An additional impulse to the market is provided by the auction for the construction of new generating capacity, which envisages the commissioning of 1,505 MW of new generation facilities. At the same time, demand is growing for local solutions for enterprises, critical infrastructure facilities, the agricultural sector, logistics, and communities.
High demand for equipment for self-generation and backup generation is also observed on the global market. Large international manufacturers report a significant increase in orders and contract portfolios in the segment of gas and other generating equipment. Under such conditions, the availability of finished equipment becomes a distinct practical advantage for customers who need to shorten project implementation timelines.

Energy Club spoke with Iliia Salikhov about the features of the equipment, possible usage scenarios, the modular principle of constructing generating complexes, supply conditions, and the prospects for distributed gas generation in Ukraine.
— Mr. Iliia, why is gas-piston generation so relevant for Ukrainian businesses today?
In recent years, the attitude of businesses toward self-generation has changed significantly. Previously, a generator was often viewed exclusively as backup equipment that should operate for a few hours during an emergency power outage.
Today, enterprises look at this much more broadly. It is about continuity of production, protection of technological processes, predictability of operations, reduction of dependence on external circumstances, and the formation of their own energy strategy.
This is especially relevant for industrial enterprises, the agricultural sector, logistics complexes, critical infrastructure facilities, water utilities, hospitals, commercial real estate, and enterprises where even a short-term shutdown can lead to significant financial losses.
Gas-piston units allow for the creation of local generating capacities without the need to immediately build one large energy facility. Capacity can be selected to meet the needs of a specific consumer and scaled further.
— What specific equipment are you offering to the Ukrainian market today?
Currently, 10 POWER HUB KT-250GF gas generator sets with a rated electrical capacity of 250 kW each are available.
Thus, the total capacity of the available equipment is 2.5 MW.
The key advantage is that the units are already in stock and ready for delivery. The customer does not need to wait for a full manufacturing cycle of the equipment, which, in conditions of high international demand, can be crucial for project implementation timelines.
At the same time, this is not just about selling a generator. For a successful launch, it is necessary to properly assess the consumption profile, gas supply possibilities, electrical connection scheme, equipment operating mode, and the requirements of the specific facility.
— For which consumers could a 250 kW unit be of the greatest interest?

But a solution should always be chosen based on more than just maximum power consumption. It is important to see the daily load profile, duration of operation, presence of peak loads, redundancy requirements, and the possibility of parallel operation of several units.
— What components are used in the POWER HUB KT-250GF?
The unit is built on the basis of the CAMC HMT13F gas engine.
To generate electricity, a Leroy-Somer TAL-A46-F alternator with copper winding and automatic voltage regulation is used.
Stable operation of the gas supply system is ensured by Madas equipment, and the unit is controlled via a DEIF AGC 150 controller.
The control system allows monitoring of the main operating parameters: voltage, frequency, engine speed, battery status, equipment operating hours, and alarm signals.
Automatic start and stop, emergency shutdown, and protective functions are provided.
The rated capacity of the unit is 250 kW, and the frequency is 50 Hz. The equipment features a three-phase design and is delivered in a soundproof canopy.
— What is the advantage of the modular principle?
The capacity of one unit is 250 kW, but if necessary, several generators can be synchronized and combined into a single system.
This allows for the formation of generating complexes with capacities that are realities of 250 kW.
For example, a customer can start with one or several units and later increase the generating capacity in accordance with the development of the enterprise or load growth.
Modularity also provides additional flexibility. Depending on current consumption, the required number of units can be used, rather than constantly operating one large unit at a low load.
Водночас синхронізація, parallel operation, load sharing, and interaction with the external grid require a separate engineering solution. The cost of the synchronization system is determined based on the number of units and the configuration of the specific facility.
— Can the POWER HUB KT-250GF be used not only as an emergency generator, but also for continuous operation?
According to the technical documentation, the equipment supports Prime Power mode — operation with a variable load for an extended period.
However, the operating mode must be determined for each facility individually.

If the unit is used for continuous generation, it is necessary to correctly calculate its load, fuel consumption, service intervals, and the economics of the entire project.
— What are the requirements for the natural gas?
The unit runs on natural gas. According to the technical information, the recommended methane content should be at least 90%.
Before implementing a project, it is necessary to check the gas characteristics, available pressure, potential consumption flow, and technical connection conditions.
The gas component is one of the key elements of the project. Therefore, even before the delivery of the equipment, it is necessary to assess whether the existing gas infrastructure can support the required operating mode of the unit or a complex of several generators.
— Is the POWER HUB KT-250GF a cogeneration unit?
In its basic configuration, the POWER HUB KT-250GF is a gas-piston power-generating unit, the main product of which is electrical energy.
To operate in cogeneration mode, it is necessary to additionally provide a heat recovery system from the engine cooling circuit and exhaust gases, heat exchange equipment, automation, and integration with the enterprise’s thermal system.
Therefore, the possibility of creating a cogeneration solution must be evaluated separately during the design stage.
At the same time, for enterprises that simultaneously have a stable need for electricity and heat, utilizing thermal energy can significantly increase the overall efficiency of the project.
— How much does the new auction for the construction of 1,505 MW of generating capacity influence the interest in such equipment?
The auction is an important signal for the entire market. It shows that Ukraine needs new generating capacities capable of increasing the flexibility and resilience of the power system.
At the same time, it is necessary to separate general market demand from the requirements of a specific auction.
The 10 available units have a total capacity of 2.5 MW, whereas the terms of the auction stipulate a significantly larger minimum size for an individual generating facility.
Therefore, we are not saying that the available set automatically constitutes a ready-made project for participation in this auction.
However, the modular principle allows for the formation of higher-capacity complexes. To participate in large investment projects, it is necessary to separately determine the required amount of equipment, synchronization parameters, connection scheme, black-start capability, operating lifespan, and compliance with all technical and auction requirements.
The most important thing is that long-term demand for new distributed and flexible generation is forming today. And this demand concerns not only large auction objects, but also local projects for enterprises and critical infrastructure.
— Why is the availability of finished units an important advantage?
The implementation of an energy project consists of more than just purchasing equipment.
It requires design, site preparation, gas and electrical connection, construction work, installation, tuning, and commissioning.
However, if the primary generating equipment is already available, the customer can avoid spending additional time waiting for manufacturing.
Today, demand for self-generation equipment is growing in many countries. This is linked to the need for new generating capacities, the development of data centers, higher requirements for power supply reliability, and the necessity to ensure grid flexibility.
Therefore, the availability of equipment allows for a faster transition to engineering preparation and practical project implementation.
— What are the commercial terms of delivery?
The cost of one 250 kW POWER HUB KT-250GF unit is 60,000 euros excluding VAT.
The price includes a soundproof canopy, equipment loading, insurance, and delivery according to agreed terms.
The delivery basis is DAP, customs warehouse in Ukraine, in accordance with Incoterms 2020.
Customs clearance of the equipment in Ukraine is carried out separately.
The following payment terms are provided:
If necessary, delivery to the customer’s warehouse, a synchronization system, additional equipment, and engineering solutions can be discussed separately.
— What warranty is provided for the equipment?
The warranty period is 12 months or 8,000 operating hours — whichever comes first.
Warranty and routine maintenance, as well as servicing, must be performed by authorized or nominated partners using original spare parts.
The possibility of servicing in Ukraine is also provided.
For us, it is important that the customer considers not only the purchase price, but the entire lifecycle of the equipment: quality of installation, correct commissioning, regular service, and the availability of spare parts.
— What does an enterprise need to prepare before making a decision?
First and foremost, it is necessary to define the actual task.
Should the unit provide emergency power? Is continuous autonomous operation planned? Will it operate in parallel with the external grid? Does the system need to be scaled in the future?
After that, it is necessary to analyze:
A properly prepared project avoids a situation where equipment is purchased but cannot be used effectively due to a mismatch in load or unprepared infrastructure.
— What would you advise companies that are just beginning to consider self-generation today?
Do not start merely with choosing a brand or the price of a generator.
You need to start with an energy analysis of the enterprise: understand what load needs to be secured, how many hours the equipment must operate, what risks need to be covered, and what the economic model should be.
After that, the optimal capacity and configuration can be determined.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. However, modular units with a capacity of 250 kW make it possible to create flexible systems adapted to the real needs of a specific facility.
And the availability of finished equipment significantly shortens the path from making a decision to creating one’s own generating capacity.
