Energy Club Launches Countdown to EU Energy Independence: The Clock Ticking Towards Rejecting Russian Gas

17.10.2025

Energy Club, a leading organization in the energy sector, announces the launch of a new project—a countdown timer to EU energy independence. This tool tracks the time remaining until the European Union completely stops importing Russian gas, highlighting the importance of diversifying energy sources and strengthening the continent’s energy security.

The initiative to create the counter belongs to Maxym Bielawski, Vice President of Energy Club. Ten years ago, while serving as Head of Communications for Ukrtransgaz, Maxim Bilyavsky launched a similar counter that tracked the days Ukraine had not imported Russian gas. This project became a symbol of success in achieving Ukraine’s energy independence and inspired similar initiatives at the European level.

“The launch of the counter for the EU is not just a technical tool, but a powerful signal about the inevitability of the transition to sustainable and independent energy. We are seeing Europe gradually move away from dependence on Russian energy resources, and this counter will help visualize the progress,” noted Maxim Bilyavsky, Vice President of Energy Club.

The counter is available on the official Energy Club website. The project aims to raise awareness among the public, businesses, and politicians about the necessity of accelerating the transition to alternative energy sources, such as renewables, LNG, and domestic production.
