Energy Market Transformation: Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum 2026 Held in Budapest

09.06.2026

On June 9, 2026, the Europe-Ukraine Energy Trading Forum 2026: Recovery, Market Coupling & New Trading Frontiers, organized by the Energy Club community, took place in Budapest. The event served as a key platform for discussing the new realities of the Ukrainian energy market, which is currently undergoing the most significant transformation in its history.

In 2026, after a year of operating without Russian gas transit and amid active generation decentralization, Ukraine is opening new perspectives for European traders and investors. The forum brought together experts, analysts, and executives of leading companies to analyze how the reconstruction of the energy system is creating new trading instruments and how to effectively leverage Ukraine’s potential within the European market.

Key discussion topics:

  • Recovery as a Business: Participants of the first panel analyzed the impact of distributed gas generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on Ukraine’s balancing market, and discussed barriers to investment and the prospects for corporate PPAs as a tool for financing new generation.
  • New Regional Energy Logistics: The second panel was dedicated to changes in gas flow patterns in Central and Eastern Europe, the role of Ukrainian gas storage, prospects for biomethane exports, as well as the implementation of market monitoring according to EU standards (REMIT) and the impact of carbon regulation (CBAM) on export strategies.

The forum was moderated by Jan Haizmann (Managing Partner, Correggio Consulting BV) and Dr. Aura Sabadus (Senior Journalist, ICIS). Joining the expert discussion were: Roman Volosheniuk (Elementum Energy), Vadym Nozdrya (RSE s.r.o.), Andrii Nemirovskyi (Co-founder of “Negen”), Rafał Staśkiewicz (Nord Pool, Euronext Group), Insa Antipova (Director of Legal Consulting, Correggio Consulting), Willem Coppoolse (Director, ERU Group), Ireneusz Bil (President, Energy Gate Europe), and Yevhen Kornieiev (Deputy Head of Division, PJSC “Ukrhydroenergo”).

Energy Club expresses its gratitude to the forum partners for their support and contribution to developing the dialogue between the Ukrainian and European energy sectors:

  • Energy Gate Europe
  • RSE s.r.o
  • GEN-I KYIV
  • ERU GROUP

The event confirmed that Ukraine is confidently integrating into the European energy space, turning challenges into new business opportunities for international partners.
