On September 25, the “Resilience and Transformation: Balancing Ukraine’s Energy System in a New Reality” forum, organized by Energy Club, took place in Kyiv. The event brought together leading experts from the energy industry—representatives of system operators, the regulator, generating companies, and innovative enterprises—to openly discuss the challenges and solutions for strengthening Ukraine’s energy system.

During the first panel, “Resilience Under Attack: Operational Challenges and Realities of the Ukrainian Energy System,” Artur Korobov, Technical Director of PowerU LLC, delivered a speech. In less than a year, his company has made the journey from a startup to one of the market leaders in energy solutions in Ukraine.

The Main Challenge: The War and Its Consequences for the Energy System

The Technical Director of PowerU emphasized that the war remains the primary threat to Ukrainian energy. The risks are colossal—from the destruction of company assets to interruptions in power supply for businesses.

Among the problems are:

  • Unpredictable energy supply due to imbalances that are approaching critical levels.
  • The risk of physical disconnection for customers in problematic areas of the energy system.
  • The high cost of peak electricity, which places an additional burden on businesses.
  • Penalties for imbalances, which are becoming a significant financial burden.
  • The issue of reactive energy for clients who own several types of generation (solar, cogeneration, gas).

Furthermore, while Ukraine is still in the process of implementing European energy efficiency standards, businesses must already be prepared to comply with them.

PowerU’s Solution: Ukrainian Energy Storage Systems

The company’s response to these challenges is its own Energy Storage Systems (ESS), which:

  • Have a capacity ranging from 200 kW to 5 MW in a containerized format.
  • Enable the formation of a microgrid based on the client’s generation and consumption.
  • Guarantee a rapid response to changes in consumption and generation.
  • Include a fully automatic energy management system (EMS and BMS).

PowerU offers maximum localized production in Ukraine—from the assembly of battery packs to the software. The only exception is the batteries themselves, which the company purchases from China’s EVE Energy or European manufacturers.

Capabilities and Advantages of PowerU’s ESS

According to Artur Korobov, Ukrainian energy storage systems offer a range of advantages for businesses:

blank
  • Optimization of renewable energy sources (RES).
  • Cost reduction by purchasing cheap electricity for later use during peak hours.
  • Minimization of imbalances to virtually zero.
  • The ability to operate on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Intra-Day Market (IDM), balancing market, and ancillary services market.
  • A quick transition between island mode and operation within the main grid.
  • Versatility for any type of generation (solar, wind, gas).

He also highlighted the technological advantages:

  • Standardized and certified production with the possibility of adaptation.
  • Use of components from leading European brands (e.g., Schneider).
  • Reliable cybersecurity with servers located exclusively in Ukraine and the EU.
  • Integrated solutions for data storage for future use in artificial intelligence systems.

Warranties and Support

PowerU provides a 5-year warranty on major components and guarantees a quick restoration of the system in case of a breakdown. Thanks to localized production, the company keeps all necessary spare parts in stock, which helps to minimize downtime.

Artur Korobov’s speech confirmed that Ukrainian businesses are capable of creating innovative solutions for energy resilience even under wartime conditions. PowerU demonstrates that localized production, technological independence, and adaptive solutions for businesses can be key factors in strengthening Ukraine’s energy security.
