Megawatts, Automation, and Unique Technologies: Denys Kuzmynskyi on the Technical Aspects of BESS Implementation

31.03.2026

Technical integration of industrial energy storage systems requires a flawless understanding of process physics and equipment capabilities. Denys Kuzmynskyi, a technical expert at Schneider Electric, during his presentation at Energy Club, revealed practical details of implementing megawatt-scale projects and presented unique solutions for the Ukrainian market.

The expert provided a detailed breakdown of industrial battery lifespan. He noted that while the company cooperates with leading cell manufacturers like Pylontech and CATL, proper operation plays a crucial role in longevity.

“Some manufacturers claim twenty thousand operating cycles, but we need to look at the root of the problem. If we are talking about real operating conditions with a 95% depth of discharge, the guaranteed resource is seven to eight thousand cycles. This means over fifteen years of operation, provided an ideal temperature regime is maintained. If the heating doesn’t work properly in winter, the battery will start to degrade rapidly. Therefore, a climate control system is just as important as the battery chemistry itself,” emphasized Denys Kuzmynskyi.

The audience was particularly interested in the company’s unique inverters, capable of supporting grid operation during critical parameter spikes. The expert provided a striking example from the European energy market.

“Last summer in Spain, a major accident occurred. Due to power flows, the frequency and voltage began to fluctuate sharply. At a certain point, standard solar inverters identified these fluctuations as critical and simply disconnected from the grid simultaneously. This led to an immediate blackout. Our industrial inverters, however, are capable of operating in special HVRT and LVRT modes. They do not disconnect during frequency drops or surges; instead, they start charging or discharging, automatically stabilizing the energy system,” explained the specialist.

Denys Kuzmynskyi also presented an innovative solution — DC-DC modules that allow connecting solar panels directly to the battery without AC conversion. This increases efficiency to 99% and enables battery charging even in the total absence of an external grid.
