On November 20, the forum “Energy of Freedom: Resilience and New Opportunities for the Energy Storage Systems Market in Ukraine,” organized by Energy Club, took place in Kyiv. The event brought together key players of the energy market—business representatives, investors, technology manufacturers, regulators, and state institutions. The forum partners were IKNET and Solar Stalkonstruktsiya.
The focus was on the role of energy storage technologies in strengthening the country’s energy security, maintaining grid stability, and transitioning to a modern decentralized energy system. Participants discussed how to create a transparent and understandable ESS market capable of ensuring Ukraine’s energy resilience and independence.
The forum program included two panel discussions. Participants discussed the role of energy storage systems in increasing power system resilience, grid balancing, RES integration, and ensuring energy autonomy for businesses and critical infrastructure. Emphasis was placed on the need for transparent regulatory rules, new business models, and accessible financial instruments.
Panel 1 “Strategy, Investment, and Business Models: How to Make the BESS Market Profitable?” Experts examined ESU investment models, opportunities for integrating BESS within SPS (Solar Power Stations) and at enterprises, practical examples of project implementation, and the impact of storage systems on the new market architecture. Among the speakers were Yurii Podoliak (IKNET), Andrii Antonov (Solar Stalkonstruktsiya), Andriy Kobolyev (Eney), Oleksandr Dombrovskyi (MHP Eco Energy), Natalia Korobenko (Elementum Energy), Denys Liubchenko (SPETSZASHCHITA), Roman Dremlyukh (PowerU), and Ivan Hryhoruk (Vice President of Energy Club).
Panel 2 “A Bankable Project: How to Finance, Legalize, and Technologically Implement BESS” Participants discussed “bankability” criteria, financial instruments, risks, legal aspects of arbitrage trading, and the place of BESS and PSPPs (Pumped Storage Power Plants) in the electricity market structure. Among the speakers were Roman Lukianchuk (Ukreximbank), Maksym Fedotov (FEDOTOV&PARTNERS), Vyacheslav Babich (Ukrhydroenergo), Oleksii Tomash (EDS), Yevhen Miachyn (Oschadbank), Pavlo Osinsky (Phoenix Contact), Oleksiy Hnatenko (Juscutum), and Ivan Hryhoruk (Vice President of Energy Club).
Special attention was paid to practical solutions for industry, the agricultural sector, retail, logistics, and critical infrastructure facilities. Experts emphasized: energy storage systems are becoming a key factor in the energy resilience of businesses and communities, helping to ensure autonomy, stability, and savings amidst challenges to the energy system.
The forum was moderated by journalist and media expert Andriy Kulykov and Energy Club Vice President Maksym Nemchynov.
