How Ukrainian Businesses Can Take Control of Their Own Energy

02.04.2026

Only a few years ago, having an on-site solar power plant was perceived as an innovative bonus or a way to profit from the “green tariff.”

Today, however, the rules of the game have changed dramatically. Massive infrastructure strikes, unpredictable blackouts, and constantly rising tariffs have left businesses with no choice. Energy issues have shifted from being a “cost” line item to becoming the foundation of security and production continuity.

At Rayton, we are witnessing this transformation firsthand through our clients’ requests. The era of diesel generators as the primary rescue plan is fading — replaced by smart hybrid systems for self-generation and energy storage. And as our experience with over 2,500 projects shows, this is the best investment a Ukrainian entrepreneur can make today.

A Paradigm Shift: From Quick Cash to 24/7 Independence

Previously, businesses came to us with a single question: “How quickly will this pay off?” Yet, even then, we understood that the future lies not in state subsidies, but in the genuine autonomy of companies.

The Great War proved this. While before 2021 the main motive was saving on bills, the key client requirement now is: “I need my business to operate continuously under any conditions.” That is why we have transformed from a traditional installer into a full-scale EPC contractor (turnkey general contractor). We design complex hybrid ecosystems where solar generation, industrial batteries, generators, and the general grid function as a single, uninterrupted organism.

The numbers speak for themselves: since the start of massive attacks, the number of inquiries has increased tenfold. Today, over 300 unique clients from more than 20 industries — from glass and rubber manufacturers to the agricultural sector, retail, and logistics — place their trust in us. And the best indicator of our work is that clients return to us for second and third construction phases.

Time and Money: What Is the Price of Freedom?

When a business owner considers their own solar power plant (SPP), the initial fears usually concern timelines and budgets. But the reality is that these indicators are very flexible and depend on proper engineering.

I often tell our clients: an SPP is a unique type of investment. You don’t need to find new customers or expand markets for it to pay off. It works automatically and generates profit (through savings) in real-time.

Today, the market shows historically optimal payback periods:

  • Self-consumption stations pay for themselves in an average of 2 years.
  • Hybrid solutions with batteries — in 4.5–5 years.

Add to this the possibility of securing subsidized financing (for example, under the “5-7-9%” program), and you get an ideal financial model. You simply lock in the cost of your products for years to come, completely eliminating the risks of tariff fluctuations.

Energy of the Future: Where We Are Headed

Today, Ukraine is forced, yet determined, to move toward energy decentralization. In the future, large enterprises will become autonomous energy hubs.

At Rayton, we see three main trends that will become the standard tomorrow:

  1. Storage as a Must-Have. Batteries are ceasing to be an “add-on” and are becoming the core of hybrid systems.
  2. Artificial Intelligence and EMS. Intelligent Energy Management Systems (EMS) will independently balance consumption, deciding when it is more profitable to charge batteries and when to draw power from the grid or a generator.
  3. Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS). A model where a business does not buy equipment but pays for a guaranteed supply of clean energy via subscription.

Energy independence is no longer just about ecology or trends. It is a factor of survival and national security. Rayton’s mission is to ensure that Ukrainian businesses have full control over their energy, continuing to operate, scale, and support the country’s economy under any conditions.
