On May 26, the Forum “Energy Decentralization 2026: Generation, Storage and Financing” will be held in Kyiv as part of the Green EnerTech-2026 exhibition, organized by Energy Club together with Kyiv Global Expo, a leader in the exhibition business segment of Ukraine. The event will become a professional platform for discussing practical solutions that today determine the energy sustainability of business – from the construction of distributed generation to the implementation of energy storage systems and attracting financing.
The forum program covers key challenges faced by enterprises: microgrid design, connection of new capacities and interaction with distribution system operators, as well as financial instruments for implementing energy projects – from bank loans and grants to ESCO models. Special attention will be paid to the return on investment in BESS and the formation of efficient hybrid energy systems.
In an interview with the Energy Club media department, the founder of Kyiv Global Expo, Ivan Tkachenko, spoke about the transformation of Ukrainian business demand – from situational solutions based on diesel generation to complex energy systems that combine renewable energy, storage and intelligent management. He also outlined key technology trends, including the rapid growth of the BESS and Microgrid segments, and explained why the synergy of the forum and the exhibition allows businesses not only to receive expert answers, but also to immediately find practical solutions for the implementation of their own energy projects.
– Ivan, this year’s Green EnerTech exhibition is taking place in very difficult conditions for the Ukrainian energy industry. What is the main idea and focus of this year’s event?
– In the fifth year of a full-scale war, the Ukrainian energy system is facing numerous challenges due to attacks by the Russian Federation, operating under conditions of capacity shortages, increased load and network restrictions. Domestic businesses have felt the impact of power outages, which has affected their operational activities.
Therefore, today the most popular exhibition events in Ukraine are projects designed to promote energy sustainability and energy independence of the country.
Kyiv Global Expo has extensive experience in holding large-scale exhibition events, a special place among which is occupied by international exhibitions focused on key areas of development of the energy and electrical engineering industries.
The main idea of holding the Green EnerTech exhibition is to accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions in renewable energy, to provide the opportunity to present modern “green” technologies as widely as possible and to consolidate the professional community on a single platform.
At a time when energy constraints have become a systemic risk factor for most enterprises, Green EnerTech will contribute to the introduction of the latest RES technologies and the construction of backup, autonomous and decentralized energy supply.
The Green EnerTech exhibition is focused on popularizing the competitive advantages of modern RES technologies, which are radically changing the energy landscape in the configuration of the power system, the structure of energy generation and consumption. In the near future, considerable efforts will have to be made to replace outdated and environmentally hazardous industrial and energy capacities. Therefore, the Green EnerTech exhibition is the platform that paves the shortest path from familiarization and implementation of modern technologies to the construction of a new generation model.
– What fundamentally new things will visitors see at the site?
– Today, “green” energy has transformed from an auxiliary direction intoacritical element of security. The aggression of the Russian Federation has accelerated the development of distributed generation and opened up new horizons for leading manufacturers of RES technologies. At the same time, we are observing a significant increase in interest inthe construction of capacities aimed at minimizing the risks of introducing restrictions on electricity supply. This means that the demand for “green” innovations is also growing rapidly, which encourages technology companies to quickly and effectively disseminate new ideas and technologies.
The Green EnerTech exhibition presents precisely such technological segments that were previously niche, but are now drivers of the development of the domestic energy sector: BESS, MicroGrid and Smart Grid solutions, modern gas-piston installations, new software products for monitoring and protecting critical infrastructure. In addition, Holding the Green EnerTech exhibition in synergy with such giant events as the International Industrial Forum and the Expert Security exhibition will provide visitors and participants with a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the most modern solutions not only in the renewable energy segment, but also to receive case studies and communicate with leading companies in the fields of mechanical engineering, metalworking, other areas of heavy industry, as well as in the field of industrial safety.
– The topic of our joint forum concerns energy decentralization. From your experience and communication with the exhibition participants, how has the demand of Ukrainian business changed over the past year? Has the business already moved away from purchasing simple diesel generators and is looking for more complex solutions?
– Yes, you have correctly noticed – over the past year, there has been a real evolution of the demand of Ukrainian business. If 2023–2024 were a time of “quick rescue” with the help of diesel generators, then at the beginning of 2026 we see a strategic transition to complex engineering systems.
From my experience of communicating with exhibitors and partners, I would highlight key changes in the business paradigm – from “fuel” to “technology”. Diesel generators are gradually moving to the role of the second or even third echelon of protection. Business has realized the main disadvantages of “diesel”: high cost per kilowatt, noiseanddependence on fuel logistics. Instead of simply “buying iron”, entrepreneurs are looking for a payback.
– What are the most common technical or organizational problems that companies are currently facing when they decide to build their own generation?
– Building their own generation is a complex engineering and legal process. Even with a budget, companies face a number of “pitfalls.” The use of renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on centralized energy supply requires a systemic approach at all levels.
Answers to technical and organizational issues that enterprises face in building their own generation will be voiced during the Energy Forum.
The most relevant topics on the emergence and elimination of regulatory and technical barriers will be discussed among experts and leading specialists – from the development and legalization of Micro Grids to the connection of energy capacities. Another equally important issue will also be considered regarding financial and investment mechanisms for the implementation of RES technologies.
– The Energy Forum and the Green EnerTech exhibition are held in the same space. What do you see as the greatest value of this format for visitors?
– The synergy of the Energy Forum business program and the Green EnerTech exhibition creates a unique format of transition from panel discussions, expert opinions and interesting cases to the exhibitions of exhibition participants, where you can see the equipment “in the metal”. This allows you to provide maximum comfort to specialists in solving their technical tasks, saving time and resources.
Again, I would like to note that the Energy Forum and the Green EnerTech exhibition will also be held in the same space with the largest industrial event in Ukraine “International Industrial Forum”, as well as with the Expert Security exhibition, which creates a truly unique platform in Ukraine.
– At the forum panels, we will analyze in detail the design of microgrids (Micro Grid), connection to regional energy companies and legalization of capacities. How widely will the equipment for such tasks be presented at the exhibition itself? Will the forum participant be able to immediately go and find the necessary “hardware” at the stands after the discussion?
– Yes, of course. This is the main “feature” of this year’s th event. The exposition is designed to be a direct material continuation of the Energy Forum panel discussions. If during the business program we talk about design and legalization, then at the exhibition you will see a full stack of “hardware” necessary for the implementation of Microgrid projects: solar panels, wind turbines, cogeneration and gas-piston power plants, hybrid grid inverters, energy storage systems, automation and Smart controllers.
– A separate major topic of the forum concerns investments, bank loans and ESCO models. Do you see a trend that equipment suppliers are now offering customers not just a product, but ready-made financial turnkey solutions?
– Yes, this is one of the most noticeable transformations in the energy equipment market over the past two years. The sale of “hardware” (just panels or inverters) is fading into the background. The system is scaled to the tasks of a specific enterprise – from minimal backup power to full energy autonomy with the ability to further supply energy to other consumers, from financing to facility support.
Equipment supplier companies, moving from selling products to comprehensive “turnkey” financial solutions, provide customers with ready-made tools (leasing, lending, insurance), which minimizes bureaucracy and speeds up operational processes. This approach, based on an analysis of customer needs, provides a comprehensive offer from developing the financial structure of the deal to support, where the customer receives a solution, not just a product.
That is why today we see a clear trend: the supplier of equipment or services becomes a financial consultant. This is how it looks in practice and what visitors will see at the Green EnerTech–2026 exhibition.
– Energy storage systems (BESS) are now one of the main trends. How many companies at this year’s exhibition offer industrial batteries and solutions for their integration?
– Indeed, today energy storage systems are one of the key trends in Ukraine. This complex of devicesandenergy accumulation and storage technologies provides an impetus for the further development of renewable energy.
As we accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources in Ukraine, energy storage systems are becoming necessary components of balancing the power system. Every year the cost of installations becomes more affordable, so for Ukrainian companies it is the most attractive option for optimizing their own energy consumption. High demand encourages manufacturers to invest in technology, scale production, increase output and reduce the cost of their products.
Among the participants of Green EnerTech–2026 are both world leaders and powerful Ukrainian integrators. The exhibition will present the main components of BESS from leading participating companies: UNEE, SUEN, ECOFLOW, BIOM, GREEN SYSTEM, POWER GENERATION, INIT ENERGY, SOLAR SOLUTIONS.
– Who would you advise to definitely visit Green EnerTech and our joint forum this year? What are the main insights or contacts that the owner or chief energy engineer of the enterprise should take away from there?
– This year, Green EnerTech and the Energy Forum are not just industry exhibition events – they are “planning headquarters” for business survival and development in the conditions of wartime energy challenges. Renewable energy has ceased to be exclusively an ecological choice – it is a strategic element of national security. During this time, in fact, under extreme conditions, Ukraine has experienced such a transformation of the energy sector that other countries need decades to achieve. We continue to accelerate the processes of integrating RES into the energy system, because this is not only a key factor in energy independence, but also a factor in our survival, security and economic development.
For the real needs of business, two events are taking place at a single venue – an exhibition space with innovative energy technologies and an industry business program with the participation of well-known experts. This year’s collaboration between the Green EnerTech exhibition and the Energy Forum is an effective format for combining the presentation of modern equipment and technologies with professional discussions.
