Recently, the new-generation law firm Juscutum joined the Energy Club business community. Founded in 2008, the company has become a recognized market leader, combining practices in law, security, investment, IT, AI, and accounting support. Juscutum is actively developing expertise in the energy sector: it supports projects in energy trading, generation, public procurement, and environmental and land disputes. The company cooperates with market regulators, supports innovative energy initiatives, and provides comprehensive legal protection for industry participants.
The President of the Energy Club, Andrii Kostrytsia, welcoming Juscutum to the business community, noted: “In any developed market, law plays a key role. The joining of JUSCUTUM Law Firm significantly strengthens the legal and regulatory expertise of the Energy Club. At a time when market rules are constantly changing and relationships between its participants are becoming more complex, access to high-quality legal support is critically important. JUSCUTUM’s expertise in supporting energy projects, GR, and business protection, reinforced by their focus on innovation and IT, will help us more effectively defend the community’s interests and develop high-quality proposals for state bodies.”
In an exclusive interview with the Energy Club’s media department, the head of Juscutum Law Firm, Iryna Beliaieva, spoke about the company’s activities and achievements, its vision of its role in the development of the Energy Club business community, and joint initiatives to support the recovery and development of Ukrainian energy.
— Juscutum is a law firm that has been supporting businesses through the most complex transformations for over 17 years. We specialize in legal defense, tax consulting, and legal structuring of companies in the technology, finance, retail, agriculture, and energy sectors. Our clients include energy holdings, “green” energy companies, traders, and critical infrastructure operators. We combine legal depth with an understanding of market dynamics and the industry’s unconventional challenges.
Juscutum is not just a law firm. It is a team that creates conditions for business in Ukraine to develop, even when it seems that the rules of the game are absent or constantly changing. We help not only to navigate the legal chaos but also to shape new rules of the game. Where others see barriers, we look for opportunities.
Juscutum was founded in 2008 with the idea of combining innovation, scale, and a deep understanding of business. We were the first in Ukraine to create an AI & LegalTech practice, launched the Legal Alarm mobile application, and structured the world’s first real estate purchase agreement using cryptocurrency. It has always been important for us to stay ahead of trends and at the same time be a support for our clients in the most difficult times. Today, we are an international group of companies with Ukrainian roots, working at the intersection of jurisprudence, technology, investment, and consulting. Our uniqueness lies in the fact that we do not just consult businesses, but help them transform and become stronger.
In the energy sector, we see ourselves as legal architects of change. Why? Because energy is the foundation of the state’s stability. Because without transparent and clear rules, investments in renewable and traditional energy sources are impossible. Because Ukraine’s new energy infrastructure is being formed right now, and we, as lawyers, must help businesses navigate this path. My personal vision as CEO is to make law cease to be a brake on business and become a tool for development. Juscutum is a team that combines professional depth and the courage to act in conditions of uncertainty. That is why we are joining the Energy Club: to create a strong, innovative, and sustainable energy sector in Ukraine together with you.
— What achievements of Juscutum are you proud of?
— We initiated the creation of a working group within the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine to promote hydrogen reform. We developed and implemented legal solutions for companies developing renewable energy sources (RES). We successfully represented clients’ interests in disputes with regulators regarding tariffs, quotas, and licenses. We supported a number of international investors entering the Ukrainian energy sector.
— What are the strategic goals for your company in the next 1-3 years?
— In the coming years, our goal is to strengthen Juscutum’s role as a reliable legal partner for energy sector companies that are implementing innovations, seeking to scale, and facing the challenges of wartime. We are focusing our efforts on three areas:
We strive to be the ones who create reliable “rules of the game” for business in the new energy sector — transparent, flexible, and adapted to the changing environment.
— What was the main incentive for Juscutum to join the “Energy Club”? What are your expectations from this membership?
— The Energy Club is a unique platform for synergy between business, government, and experts. For us, it is important to be not only an advisor to clients but also a participant in the dialogue that shapes the new paradigm of the industry. The Energy Club is not just a community, but a living ecosystem for exchanging experience, networking, and synergy. We see the Club as an environment of like-minded people ready to create the future of energy through partnerships, analytics, and joint initiatives.
— Have you had previous experience working with the Energy Club or its members? If so, what was it?
— Yes, we have worked with a number of the Club’s member companies in the format of legal support, particularly in matters of anti-crisis consulting, deal structuring, and protecting interests in relations with state bodies.
— What specific advantages do you see in membership in an energy industry association, especially in the current conditions?
— There are several:
— What problems or challenges facing your company or the industry as a whole do you hope to solve or mitigate through participation in the Club?
— Joint development of legal response models to wartime and post-war challenges. Collective response to challenges in security, regulation, and judicial practices. Reducing regulatory barriers. Promoting the formation of transparent tariff-setting mechanisms. Supporting investments in renewable energy and new technologies (hydrogen, Smart Grid).
— How does Juscutum plan to actively participate in the Club’s activities?
— Analytical and legal support for thematic initiatives. Conducting legal workshops and round tables. Participation in joint research and white papers. Participation in working groups on regulatory issues.
— What areas of cooperation within the Club are the highest priority for you?
— Legal support for sustainable development and ESG. Protection from regulatory pressure. Models of interaction with investors, digitalization of contractual relations. Exchange of best practices in business security.
— How do you see your role in building a strong and sustainable energy system in Ukraine, particularly through the prism of cooperation in the Energy Club?
— Our role is to be a legal engineer of change. We create regulatory models that help companies develop even in the harshest conditions. We believe that a sustainable energy sector begins with a stable legal framework.
— In your opinion, what key joint initiatives could the Energy Club and its members implement to support the recovery and development of Ukrainian energy?
— A certification program for internal processes to comply with European integration requirements. A “Legal Anti-Crisis Center” for market participants. A legal compliance program for RES projects. A joint series of White Papers on regulatory challenges and ways to solve them.
— Tell us about your vision for the future of the Ukrainian energy market in 5-10 years? What role will your company and the Energy Club play in this vision?
— Ukraine will become part of the European energy space with a transparent, digitalized market integrated into the single EU system. It is important that the legal framework keeps pace with innovation. We believe that the foundation for this future is being laid right now. Juscutum sees itself as a partner that helps navigate this path — from complexity to stability.
— What would you like to wish the members of the Energy Club and potential partners?
— Unity, courage in implementing innovations, and a shared belief in the restoration and strengthening of Ukrainian energy. We are open to cooperation, exchanging expertise, and creating innovative formats of legal support for the energy sector — together with you. We are convinced that law is a tool for development, not a barrier. That is why Juscutum is joining the Club with the intention of strengthening joint initiatives and creating conditions for a transparent and innovative energy sector.
