Investment and donor conference to raise funds to rebuild Ukraine's war-torn energy infrastructure
The global energy industry is in the process of an unprecedented transformation from fossil fuel-based energy to renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass, and hydrogen. The main driver of this change is rapidly evolving technology, opening up new opportunities for nations and businesses alike.
Decarbonization has become a new global trend, which has resulted in Europe's European Green Deal. Its goal is to build a carbon-neutral economy within the EU by 2050 and to ensure the sustainable development of all spheres of life.
Thanks to the EU's desire to accelerate the energy transition, the Green Deal has become a Euro-integration issue for Ukraine. This active stance of Europe, which has faced the challenges of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, pushes both the Ukrainian authorities and the private sector to prepare for the necessary changes in the energy sector. And the priority is to ensure the flexibility and stability of the domestic energy system. After joining the ENTSO-E unified continental European electricity system, Ukraine must provide sufficient balancing and reserve capacity to demonstrate supply capability under all system scenarios.
The merging of the Ukrainian energy system with the European one is the most important component of Ukraine's energy security. Synchronous operation increases the reliability and stability of Ukrainian energy systems, expands the opportunities for electricity exchange between countries, increases competition in the domestic market and creates opportunities to work in the European energy market. But to do so, Ukraine's energy system must be self-sufficient.
Post-war reconstruction can give an impetus to the development of the Ukrainian energy sector, in particular the power grid, which even in peacetime was very worn out and in need of significant modernization. We will discuss what the path to recovery could be and where to get the money for it at the INVESTMENT AND DONOR CONFERENCE, which will be held online on May 31, 2022.
